News Received 15th November 2012

Ellesborough Golf Club

Ellesborough ladies have made it through to final stages on the Mail on Sunday competition to be held at El Rompido, Spain 18th - 21st November.
15 ladies have represented the team since the 2012 campaign started in January and the fortunate ones who are due to play in Spain are from left to right:

The Ellesborough Mail on Sunday Team
Lois Shoosmith, Alice Kozlowski, Cathy Armstrong, Clara Leathers, Jess Burrows & Steph Gough

The team had a lucky escape in the quarter finals in Manchester. After 8 wins in succession to reach that stage, it was sad that quarter final winners had to be decided on points won in the previous rounds. Ellesbororough were due to take on Druids Heath, from the Midlands but play was abandoned due to the atrocious weather. The rules of the competition had to be brought into use which saw Ellesborough coming out on top. The Ellesborough girls commiserated with the Druids Heath ladies as it was not the way they would have wished to have won.

The semi finals and finals in Spain are between Ellesborough, Sundridge Park, Hamilton and Willow Valley. Four mens' teams are also through.

Huntswood Golf Club:

Louise Reynolds, a member from Huntswood, did very well at the NAPGC at Abbotsley on Sunday 15th August.

The course par for Ladies was 76 and standard scratch on the day was 78. Louise's score was nett 79 (gross 97), which won her the best nett score in the Silver Division. This was also the best nett score for the whole competition across all handicaps.

The prizes were presented by Vivienne Saunders who owns the course, and Louise tells me she thoroughly enjoyed chatting with her.

News From Delegates' Meeting 15th September 2010

Beaconsfield Golf Club:

The County Championships final was an all Beaconsfield affair, between Zoe Fitz Costa and Annabel Dimmock, who are both still juniors.  It was a very exciting match, with Zoe winning at the 19th hole.

One of our juniors, Chloe Lipton, won a EWGA Rose Spoon in July for a net 56 (that’s 18 under handicap!) Carol Weir was runner up in the English Women’s Senior Amateur Championships at Littlestone. We had a very good run in the Mail On Sunday Classic, winning our first five matches, but were beaten in the sixth round.

Beaconsfield Club Delegate

Burnham Beeches Golf Club:

Burnham Beeches Golf Club, founded in 1891, is a challenging course in a beautiful setting on the edge of Burnham Beeches. Our Ladies’ Captain is Carol Wilson and we have a strong and keen ladies’ section, comprising 47 Silver and 79 Bronze playing members.

On Tuesday mornings (and Saturday for our working ladies) we play a variety of competitions the majority of which are qualifying.  Mixed golf is also very popular and social competitions are arranged on some weekends and on Saints days.

Henrietta Watkins, playing off 6, has been our Club Champion 6 times now.  This year she received a strong challenge from a new member, Yvonne Tate, playing off 10. Yvonne joined Burnham Beeches this year from Hampton Court Golf Club.  After 18 holes they were still all square and played to the 21st hole before Henrietta triumphed. Yvonne works for Crown Golf and is therefore a valuable new asset to our club. Laura O’Donnell, playing off 5, is our lowest handicap player.  She has recently completed her law degree and we hope she will have more time to play in our competitions in the future.

At the beginning of 2010 Burnham Beeches was awarded GolfMark, the cadet development programme (the national scheme that identifies and recognises junior and beginner friendly golf facilities).  The junior section is very strong, including seven girls, one of whom is receiving county coaching.  The others are being coached by our professional, Ronnie Bolton, his assistant, Chris Dodd, as well as by Martin Bart and Steve Ball, our Cadet Developers.

During the summer holidays Carol Woodland, our Junior Coordinator, arranged for some of the junior girls to play at the end of the field in the Ladies’ competitions on a Tuesday to give them some practice in playing competitive golf. Last week Joanna Smith, one of our juniors, celebrated her 18th birthday and played in the Ladies’ Tuesday morning Stableford.  We were all delighted when she won the Bronze section and her handicap was cut from 22 to 20, putting her into the Silver Division.

We had two pairs representing BBGC in the annual county Lady and Junior competition which was played at Harleyford Golf Club.  The pairs were: Carol Woodland and Joanna Jones, and Rosemary de Lacey and Beth Scott.  We didn’t win but it was great experience for our cadets and Carol and Joanna scored a very respectable 35 points.

A team of Pauline Olliver, Joan Somerville and Sandra Saary competed in the Senior Women’s Regional North Tournament (B Division for handicaps 11-20) which was played over two rounds at Warrington Golf Club on 2 and 3 September, and Pauline Olliver was the winner.

The Ladies’ Committee have recently agreed that Burnham Beeches will host the 2011 Midlands South Regional Foursomes Championship to be played in October 2011.

Datchet Golf Club:

Amy Staniford - Datchet's only handicapped junior golfer- recently won the St Andrews Junior Open Handicap Matchplay title (The St Andrew's Quaich). In the qualifying strokeplay event, playing off 16 she played 10 shots under handicap so is now playing off 13.

Farnham Park Golf Club

Charlotte Nutt (16 years old) with a handicap of 9 won the NAPGC Peter Alliss and Roy Beckett Rose Bowl, the Ladies championship of England at Abbotsley Golf Club, 80 players qualified to play.

We won the NAPGC White Webbs Golden Jubilee Shield 3 & 2 in the semi final, and 4 & 1 in the final with a team of 5 singles matchplay, which started in April and 60 teams entered.

We also won the Mary Foster Bowl 2010 – Winter Cup, the final was played in Spring with team of 3 aggregate stableford – 60 teams entered

We also got through to the 5th round of the Daily Mail Foursomes losing to Sunningdale.

Wavendon Golf Club:

Jo Harrison who was playing off a handicap of 17, won the Challenge Shield.
Low Scores:
-  Jean Haddock net 60 playing off 20, reduced to 16.9 on 17 April 2010
-  Brenda Robinson playing of 28 scored 47 points reduced to 23.
Scratch Leagues:
-  Silver have gone from div 3 to div 2 this year and are looking for promotion after this year competition.
-  Bronze came 2nd this year, maintaining their position for next year.
Course Record:
(Not previously recorded) Debbie Pollard-Barnes has a gross 74 on 9 February 2010

Wavendon Club Delegate

Whiteleaf Golf Club:

National Golf Club Challenge 2010, Ladies Section:
-  Whiteleaf Golf Club came first in the above Challenge out of 65 National entries.
-  Whiteleaf were also the largest fund raiser on the day.  Out of 250 Clubs they raised £11,000 for the charity Help for Heroes, which we consider not bad for a 9 hole Golf Club with only 300 members.
The prize for the 10 Whiteleaf ladies involved is a day at The Belfry which includes a golf clinic with a celebrity pro., a round of golf on the PGA National course, followed by Gala dinner where they will receive their 1st prize.

Whiteleaf Club Delegate

Woburn Golf Club:

We have 2 outstanding young girls at the club now:
-  Charley Hull is 14 and plays off +3. She won our club championship by 13 shots with rounds of 67 and 75. She has played in a number of junior events around the country and has also had success playing in ladies events. She won the Leveret Trophy at Formby Ladies playing against top amateurs and some professionals. She missed qualifying for the British Women’s Open by one stroke and last week played for England in the Home Internationals.
-  Lauren Taylor also plays off +3 and has had a successful season as well. She was runner-up in the English Girls Close Amateur Championship and finished 6th in the Helen Holm Scottish Amateur Championships. She finished 12th in the Ladies British Open Amateur Stroke Play Championships and was selected for the England girls team.
I could go on but I would be here all day. The only problem for Bucks is that Charley plays for Northants and Lauren plays for Warwickshire.

We were thrilled that Woburn retained the Bucks Shield and are very proud of the girls who played in the matches.

The clubhouse at Woburn is to undergo a major refurbishment this winter and should be looking much smarter by next year. It should be finished by next May and we are all looking forward to the improved facilities.
